Midwestern Bites From Our Family to Yours
Having a father from Iowa, the Cook family has always known and loved tavern sandwiches. When they grew to be adults and realized so many people had never heard of their favorite dish, they decided they wanted to share this homemade staple with their own hometown of Sioux Falls, SD… so Taverns + Tots was born. Variations of the savory loose meat sandwich are featured on the truck, but when you ask the owners what their favorite is, it’s still the Classic Tavern Sandwich topped with dill pickles and a side of crispy tater tots.
How is a tavern different from a Sloppy Joe or a barbecue?
All three sandwiches are loose ground beef sandwiches however, the base ingredients are what make them unique!
A “Sloppy Joe” derives from a tomato sauce base.
A “tavern” has a savory horseradish and Worcestershire base.
A “barbecue” adds a barbecue sauce.
Although they are sometimes used interchangeably, they are really quite different!
